Today the Supreme Court declared the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) unconstitutional and refused to defend California’s Proposition 8, which amended the state’s constitution to prohibit same sex marriage.
This decision to redefine marriage to include same sex couples presents an unprecedented attack on religious liberty in America.
We don’t have to tell you that marriage is a sacred union between one man and one woman and the building block of human civilization. Only a man and woman together can procreate, and research proves that children excel best when raised by a married mom and dad.
The policies that were in place to recognize marriage as a union only between a man and a woman protected more than just children; they also protected thousands of religious institutions throughout America that perform marriages and facilitate adoptions.
Unfortunately, the Supreme Court has the final say on the law. So today we turn our focus to defending religious institutions and laity.
Friends, there is no room for compromise. We will not tolerate the federal government to dictate religious institutions’ policy on marriage, nor will we sit back and watch them escalate their assault of religious liberty in America.
