The polling results released by the New York Times last week do not come as a surprise to anyone familiar with the recent history of the Catholic vote.

Driehaus v. Driehaus On Abortion Funding In the Healthcare Bill

Congressman Steve Driehaus (D, OH-01) is attempting to send a Catholic pro-life leader to jail for opinions he himself held for months prior to suddenly voting for the same bill he opposed.

The President of the Susan B. Anthony List, Marjorie Dannenfelser, faces possible prison time for asserting on a billboard in Cincinnati that Rep. Driehaus voted for taxpayer-funded abortion when he voted for the health care bill. (more…)

Senate Leadership Speaks To Press About Stimulus Package

Recent polling shows the religiously active Catholic vote is trending strongly toward the GOP.  Gary Andres summarizes the findings by commenting:

“While Republicans lost among Catholics in 2006 by 11-points and 13-points in 2008, they now hold a 7-point lead (39%-32%) among Catholics in general. Republicans also lead among Catholics who attend church once a week or more by 12 points.”

These numbers look back to the results of the 2004 presidential election when George W. Bush crushed the Catholic candidate, Sen. John Kerry, by 5% among all self-identified Catholics and by nearly 20% among Catholics attending Mass at least once a week. (more…)

50 Days of Prayer & Action

Monday, September 13, 2010 marks 50 days until Americans will go to the polls to vote in the mid-term Congressional elections.
