Urge Your Member of Congress to support The Protect Life Act

The Protect Life Act is an effort to fix the abortion language in the Obama health care bill.

Many may remember when President Obama told America on September 9, 2009 – “…and one more misunderstanding I want to clear up – under our plan no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions, and federal conscience laws will remain in place.”

Relying on an Executive Order is not effective in protecting the sanctity of life in the Obama health care law.

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) even acknowledges the bill “was profoundly flawed in its treatment of abortion, conscience rights,…” In a May 20, 2010 letter announcing support for the Protect Life Act, Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo, Chairman of the Committee on Pro-Life Activities, implored Members of Congress to “…help give us a reformed health care system that respects the life, health, and conscience of all.”

The Protect Life Act is a positive step in restoring the Hyde amendment language to the health care bill and protecting the unborn.

Take action against Abortions in the Military

Tell your Senator to protect the unborn in military hospitals. Click here to send a letter to your Senators urging them to take action.

• Current law prohibits the performance of abortion by Department of Defense medical personnel or in Department of Defense medical facilities except when the life of the mother is at risk or when the pregnancy is the result of rape or incest. There is no distinction in this policy between military facilities within the United States and those overseas.

• Senator Roland Burris (D, IL) added language in the committee process to S. 3454, the National Defense Authorization Act, to allow abortions at taxpayer-funded military base hospitals. Section 713 seeks to strike out the words “Restriction on Use of Funds”. Senator Burris’ summary of his amendment is available here.

• Cardinal Daniel DiNardo, Chairman, Committee on Pro-Life Activities at the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops sent a letter to all U.S. Senators opposing the Burris language.
