In my pre-election comment for Catholic Advocate, I predicted Catholics were going to “repent” for their support of Obama and the Democratic Party agenda.
CNN national exit polling reports tell the story: Catholic voters returned to the GOP yesterday by a margin of 53 percent to 45 percent.
These numbers are basically a reversal of the 2008 presidential results. Catholic contrition is seen throughout the election results in House and Senate races as well as gubernatorial results.
There are exciting, new pro-life Catholic candidates going to Congress. Pro-life Catholic incumbent members of Congress were reelected.
The decision of Bart Stupak (D-MI) not to run for reelection suggests he knew exactly what was coming. Many Catholic Democrats who followed him by caving in to party pressure to support Obamacare were defeated.
Steve Driehaus (D-OH) lost by a wide margin. Driehaus was the “pro-life Catholic” congressman who attempted to put Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the SBA List, in jail for telling the truth about his support of federally funded abortion.
Charlie Wilson (D-OH), who lied about his vote for Obamacare in the diocesan newspaper in Steubenville, was also soundly beaten.
And, there were more, including Kathy Dahlkemper (D-PA) and Joe Sestak (D-PA).
The darling of the Catholic Left was also defeated: Tom Perriello (D-VA). Perriello was being held up by fake Catholic groups like Catholics United as a “pro-life Catholic” even though he supported Obamacare and the abortion funding that went with it.
I will be publishing a comprehensive analysis of the Catholic vote in the 2010 mid-term elections tomorrow morning at the American Spectator.
