U.S. District Judge Henry Hudson, a federal judge in Richmond, Virginia declared a key section of the Obama administration’s health care reform law unconstitutional. The lawsuit was filed by Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli in defense of Virginia’s own law that prohibited those living in the Commonwealth from being forced to purchase insurance. (more…)
While much of the national debate was focused on the controversial “Don’t, Ask, Don’t Tell” repeal contained in the National Defense Authorization Act, the legislation still contained language allowing for taxpayer funded abortions on military bases. (more…)
Analysts on the Hill are offering predictions about what a badly chastened lame duck Congress might attempt to do before some 65 or so of them have to clean out their offices. One possible scenario is that Democrats may try to jam through some overdue budget legislation — work put off not only so that incumbents could go home and try to save their jobs, but also so they could postpone adding to the obscene federal deficit until after the elections. In my pre-election comment for Catholic Advocate, I predicted Catholics were going to “repent” for their support of Obama and the Democratic Party agenda.
CNN national exit polling reports tell the story: Catholic voters returned to the GOP yesterday by a margin of 53 percent to 45 percent.
These numbers are basically a reversal of the 2008 presidential results. Catholic contrition is seen throughout the election results in House and Senate races as well as gubernatorial results.
There are exciting, new pro-life Catholic candidates going to Congress. Pro-life Catholic incumbent members of Congress were reelected.
The decision of Bart Stupak (D-MI) not to run for reelection suggests he knew exactly what was coming. Many Catholic Democrats who followed him by caving in to party pressure to support Obamacare were defeated.
Steve Driehaus (D-OH) lost by a wide margin. Driehaus was the “pro-life Catholic” congressman who attempted to put Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the SBA List, in jail for telling the truth about his support of federally funded abortion.
Charlie Wilson (D-OH), who lied about his vote for Obamacare in the diocesan newspaper in Steubenville, was also soundly beaten.
And, there were more, including Kathy Dahlkemper (D-PA) and Joe Sestak (D-PA).
The darling of the Catholic Left was also defeated: Tom Perriello (D-VA). Perriello was being held up by fake Catholic groups like Catholics United as a “pro-life Catholic” even though he supported Obamacare and the abortion funding that went with it.
I will be publishing a comprehensive analysis of the Catholic vote in the 2010 mid-term elections tomorrow morning at the American Spectator.
The Population Research Institute has produced an impressive video “ObamaCare: The Facts on Abortion.” The video is a straight-forward assessment about abortion funding in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Key portions include debunking the effectiveness of the Stupak Executive Order and the ability for the federal Department of Health and Human Services to be able to fund abortion as a result of the law. Catholic Advocate recommends you take a few moments to watch this video and immediately share with your family and friends. ObamaCare: The Facts On Abortion
